Join us for “Martin Luther: An Unlikely Reformer.” A tipping point is when a new direction has been slowly building, then an event, or person, or action tips it forward, creating lasting change. Martin Luther, while not the only reformer, was the one who tipped the world into the Protestant Reformation. This class gives us the opportunity to study Luther - a man who went from lawyer to monk to excommunication to the founder of a new faith communion. Rick & Gretchen Thiele will lead us in exploring Luther’s life, his influence, and his lasting impact not only on the Lutheran church, but on all of Christianity. The study will be guided by the book, “Martin Luther: A Life from Beginning to End”. While participants do not have to buy the book, if they wish it is available from Amazon. The class will run March 31 - April 28 from 6:30-7:30 PM. To register and/or with questions regarding the class, contact Rick & Gretchen at gthiele1@verizon.net.
Josh Scott, author of the book Context, takes familiar scripture passages, reflects on how we have viewed those passages, then unpacks the context that forms and informs those passages to broaden our understanding of the messages contained in familiar words. Through a short video each week, reading along in the book, and group discussion, you will be able to deepen your understanding of such passages as 1 Corinthians 13; Jeremiah 29:11 and Philippians 4:13. Join Rachel and Mark Hagewood for this 5-week study, April 15 - May 13 from 6:00-7:00 PM in the Community Room and open yourself up to deeper knowledge of the Bible! Purchase the book “Context: Putting Scripture In Its Place” by Josh Scott from Cokesbury or Amazon (ISBN: 9781791032098).
