Are you new to Belle Meade and interested in learning more? Belle Meade 101 is a 5-week course offered by Rev. Sam McGlothlin and Rev. Mary Jane Pierce Norton. We explore United Methodist theology, history, and polity, as well as our local church’s history, vision, values, and ways for you and/or your family to get engaged! This is a great way to meet other newcomers to the church. We will gather every Sunday, August 30 to September 27, from 9:30-10:15 AM in the Community Room. Please RSVP to Pastor Sam, sam@bellemeadeumc.org.
Tuesday night Bible study will be led by Dr. Kinny Cosner and Bill Wilkin, using Dr. Amy-Jill Levine’s book, “Genesis: A Beginner’s Guide to the Beginning,” and the accompanying videos. Dr. Amy-Jill Levine presents Genesis as a living text, one that continues to shape faith, identity, and our understanding of what it means to be human. The study explores these key stories from Genesis: The Garden of Eden; Cain and Abel; Noah’s Ark; The Near Sacrifice of Isaac; Jacob’s Stairway to Heaven; Joseph’s Saga. Join with others for Bible study, enjoy the leadership of Kinny and Bill, and grow in fellowship with a group that studies, discusses, and prays together each week. Please purchase the book from Cokesbury or Amazon (ISBN: 9781791032364). The class will run from Tues Sept 8-Oct 27 from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM on Zoom only. To sign up or ask questions, please contact Bill Wilkin, wcwilkin@yahoo.com.
Join us for a 6-week class every Wednesday night from 6:00-7:00 PM, September 16 – October 21 exploring the Bible. We will explore the origins of the books of the Old Testament and New Testament, how history and archaeology can help us understand the Bible, ways to read the Bible as ancient literature, and the various theological traditions we can discern within the text. The class will be taught by Dr. Brian Sigmon and will have ample time for discussion in small groups each week. In the final week we will have time to address questions that the participants want to explore in more depth. This is not a come and go class; participants should plan to attend for the full 6 weeks to get the most out of the small group experience. RSVP by clicking here. Questions?
