The Upper Room Sunday School Class would like to invite any interested church member to join us for the first four Sundays of November. We will meet in the Community Room 121 at 9:15 a.m. Dean Victor Judge from the Vanderbilt University Divinity School will be teaching on four short stories from the canon of contemporary southern literary theologian Tim Gautreaux.
The four stories are thematically and figuratively related to the parable of the good Samaritan. Gautreux’s context is particularly focused on issues of commitment and responsibility. His stories concern people who’ve messed up, usually because they’ve shirked on their obligations to the children they’ve borne, the spouses they’ve wed, as well as their own best selves. Many of these, by the way, are parents. Gautreux’s stories are filled with grandparents saddled with the raising of their errant children’s children, picking up pieces and cleaning up messes.
Dean Judge is an amazing orator and will entertain us while taking us deeper into the words of Tim Gautreax.
